Tips To Better Ergonomics For Manual Material Handling...

Manual material handling (MMH) work contributes to a large percentage of the over half a million cases of musculoskeletal disorders reported annually in the United States. Musculoskeletal disorders often involve strains and sprains to the lower back, shoulders, and upper limbs. They can result in protracted pain, disability, medical treatment, and financial stress for those afflicted with them. Employers often find themselves paying the bill, either directly or through workers’ compensation insurance. At the same time they must cope with the loss of the full capacity of their workers.

Scientific evidence shows that effective ergonomic interventions can lower the physical demands of MMH work tasks, thereby lowering the incidence and severity of the musculoskeletal injuries they can cause.

This booklet offers suggestions to improve the handling of rectangular, square, and cylindrical containers, sacks, and bags. Read the manual on-line or download the pdf at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2007-131/

Crazy Custom Crane Solutions by Gorbel...

For this application, Gorbel was asked to design an intelligent lifting device for a low headroom application with a 660# capacity. Within a small clean room, they need to lift a very expensive piece of equipment onto a lift cart that is a short distance away.

Our engineering department was able to save floor space by mounting two WSJ200 jib cranes on a freestanding jib mast. This allowed the mast to remain outside the room, while the brackets (pivot point) reached through the clean room curtain and into the work space. A G-force 660# actuator was then angled on a mounting plate between the two Work Station Jibs, to reach up and over a wheel, allowing for a 14” headroom lift. A remote mount pendant was used to eliminate the headroom needed for an inline slide handle.
